The Other Radio
Independent Radio from Cape Town to U (RL)
The Other Radio is an online station broadcasting the sounds of The Other and their friends. We're a new home for globally minded music broadcasts in Cape Town, South Africa. All shows follow an enthusiasm for otherness and a deep appreciation of music. We strive to represent an inclusive and diverse selection of DJs, shows and perspectives from around the world and to create a platform for often-overlooked and niche genres and perspectives from South Africa.

Smart-Casual Creative
The Other Design is a transdisciplinary creative studio with a
strong focus on visual identities, web design and brand
positioning. We help build and expand your products, services and
ideas in the fields of graphic design, web design, art direction,
copywriting and photography. We also offer digital strategy and
design consulting. Our work is inspired by simplicity, goodwill
and humour. We engage in projects and research on the
relationship between music, design, and popular culture, with
over 7 years of experience in branding (including festivals),
social media look-and-feel and visual tone setting. We also have
quite a repertoire of off-beat gig poster designs, if that’s your
thing. It sure is ours.
We’re currently available for small- to medium-sized projects for
remote work during the COVID-19 outbreak. Let’s talk ideas!

The Place for Colourful Music
The Other Records is a lovingly curated community record store Gardens, Cape Town, South Africa. You’ll find new and used vinyl, tapes and CDs alongside merch, zines and other oddities. We have a penchant for electronic music, but we also showcase anything ethereal, otherwise-minded and interesting. We proudly support local artists, assisting with launch events, listening parties and live streams. We also host frequent in-store sessions that are free to the public (including Some Sundays, when we host special guests for afternoon sets). We also just launched our online store!

The Other Events creates left-field music events drawing strength from its members’ collective backgrounds in artist management, graphic design and sound management, and shared taste in the eclectic. We function both as an agency and consultancy; we run our own ongoing parties and frequently collaborate with other new and established events, either crafting the entire experience, creating designs or overseeing art direction or programming line-ups. We're currently the team behind SWIM (our long-running, no-holds-barred dance party), Hypnic State (an ambient sound and visual art experimental sleepover event jointly produced with Ma'or Harris) and Search Festival (an intimate festival with some seriously great music happening for three days over New Year’s). Previous artists we've hosted include Teki Latex, Klein, Angel-Ho, Moses Boyd, Rival Consoles, DJ Call Me, K-$, Nabihah Iqbal.

Three Many DJs, So Little Time
From techno to ambient, soft rock to house, experimental to
disco, niche to pastiche; The Other DJs are your variety
specialists. We gently switch (and sometimes jostle) between the
three of us, always together on-stage, dressed in our best.
Unless we’re playing ambient, we probably won’t stand still,
music’s just too good. Yes, we dedicate ourselves to connecting
people to music. While discerning selectors alone, we come
together as a flexible trio, bringing a wild diversity to our
sets, often improvised, to vivacious effect. From soft sets to
hard sets and attitudes mild to wild, we’ll provide the sweet
milk to soothe your bad trip: the best of the rest, in peace, on
Earth. For all of mankind, we play music. Except psy-trance.

Wolfkop Weekender, Rocking The Daisies, Smalltown Beat,

Who we are
The Other is a creative studio and music culture company.
We create channels that connect people and ideas through music.
Our work is both commissioned and self-initiated. We tap into
otherness — talent, thoughts and spaces diverging from the norm
that deserve to stand out. Our name is our strongest motivator.
We’ve started a record store, an events company and an online
radio station. We co-own and operate Search Festival, regarded as
one of South Africa’s best new festivals. We frequently
collaborate on parties in that celebrate diversity in people and
music. We’re also a DJ collective! We’ve performed our ecletic
blend of genres at some of the biggest, best and weirdest
festivals and clubs in the country.
In addition to our own projects, we work on visual identities,
music- and events programming, web design and music writing.
Currently based in South Africa but also working virtually, we aim
to form close relations with cultural organisations &
institutions, brands, events and likeminded agencies.
The Other was founded by Aaron Peters, Matt Hichens and Philippus
Johan.

Aaron Peters
Aaron Peters is a Cape Town based curator whose work spans many fields within the music industry, with over a decade of experience. As a manager and booking agent at Black Major, he was able to work with some of the most groundbreaking and important acts in the country. His role had him actualising prominent music releases and securing dates for artists at some of the world’s leading festivals while on your. He’s the co-founder of The Other, where he is responsible for producing much of The Other Records and The Other Radio, and serves as head booking agent for Search Festival. He also hosts a monthly show that specialises in new and exciting South African music on Worldwide FM, a prominent UK-based radio station founded by Gilles Petersen
Philippus Johan
Philippus “Phijos” Johan is a graphic designer, radio producer, DJ and sort of writer based in Cape Town. He’s co-founder of The Other and heads up much of the visual and written tone-setting of the business. Before The Other, Phijos stretched his time as an Art Director and Graphic Designer between many different brands and projects, some in-studio and some as a freelancer. He’s worked on everything from telecom companies, skincare brands, car manufacturers, wine farms, restaurants, furniture retailers and fashion brands through to an endless stream of music-related work, including posters and album artworks. The Other offered a growing sense of purpose and fun, so much so that he and Aaron decided to formalise the business and take it on as a lifestyle.
